When is day drinking acceptable?

Yesterday, Mel and I discussed a little bit about days where it’s perfectly acceptable and sometimes even expected to do a little day drinking. We spent all day yesterday coming up with a little list for you:

  • Thanksgiving Day – Let’s face it, some of us need it to get through that much time with our families.
  • Tailgating – Look, those 2:30 football games on Saturdays in the fall are prime time for cracking a cold one.
  • Vacation – You’re not at work, it’s your time, spend it how you choose. Maybe you’re floating the river, or just hanging out at the pool for a staycation, a little taste of a frosty adult beverage is A-OK!
  • St Patrick’s Day – Toasting a Guinness to the Patron Saint of getting snakes out of Ireland (that’s his official Saint title, right? ha) isn’t only acceptable, but at this point, it’s tradition!
  • Chilifest – Well, it’s Chilifest, need I say more?
  • Cinco de Mayo – Let’s all celebrate, umm, what is it really for again? No one cares, belly up to the bar with a cold Corona and just appreciate!
  • Christmas – So what if you went over budget on all those presents for Junior? Santa brought you a gallon of egg nog for a reason.
  • New Year’s Day – It’s the start of a new year, so your liver gets a fresh start, right?
  • Birthday – Because it’s your birthday and you’ll party if you want to!
  • Fat Tuesday – You’re getting ready to cut out a few bad habits to get ready for Lent, so pop a top and celebrate a little Mardi Gras, even if it’s in your own living room!
  • Monday – Because the weekend just wasn’t long enough and your first day back at work for the week was difficult to deal with.
  • Tuesday – So many bars have great specials for Tuesday, might as well take advantage of them!
  • Wednesday – You’ve made it half way through the week, time to celebrate!
  • Thursday – It’s college night, so you might as well do a little home day drinking so you don’t have to spend as much when you go out.
  • Friday – The work week is almost done, so why not have a couple of pints while you’re at lunch? Matter of fact, go ahead and take the rest of the afternoon off so you can be fully prepared for your weekend!
  • Saturday – Well there’s obviously some sort of game that you can enjoy, no matter what time of year. Spring and summer? Baseball. Fall? Football. Winter? Hockey and basketball!
  • Sunday – Get one last drink in before the week starts. Plus there’s more football on! Depending on what team you choose to root for, you might have to drink to get through the game.

**DISCLAIMER: this is all in good fun. Neither Adam Drake or Maverick 102.7 advocate drinking every single day of the week. Make sure to go back and read through this and have a laugh at it and remember to always drink responsibly.**

Mel came up with her own list of days where it’s NOT appropriate to do some day drinking:

  • Easter – Because remember that one time Uncle Billy punched out the Easter Bunny and knocked his head off? The kids still aren’t over that.
  • Kids birthday party – Much the same reason for not drinking on Easter, you don’t wanna traumatize your kids with drunken antics that will take years of therapy to get over.
  • Funerals –  You’re already emotional enough, it might not be the best idea to add alcohol to the mix. You don’t wanna be the person who passes out in the back of the hearse trying to sleep off your buzz.
  • Wedding Day – Not that it’s always a bad thing, but you don’t wanna be that bride, groom, or member of the wedding party that has to be picked up out of the bushes for pictures. Also, for the bride and groom, too much day drinking would lead to a not so fun wedding night.
  • Job Interview – While you may be applying at a company with some relaxed practices, no future employer wants you to walk into the office for the first time with a little whiskey on your breath.
  • WHEN YOU ARE PREGNANT – Yes, some doctors agree that a glass of wine here and there won’t hurt the baby, it’s still not the best idea to day drink while with child.
  • When you’re the driver – Don’t be a dummy, put it down!

**Editor’s note: Again, we’re laughing and having fun with the Little Big Town song “Day Drinking” but Drake and Mel and everyone with Maverick 102.7 advise you to drink responsibly and if you have a problem to get help.**
