Glen Campbell‘s final recording will be digitally released on Sept. 30 as part of a five-song EP from the soundtrack of the upcoming film documentary,Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.
Written by Campbell and Julian Raymond specifically for the documentary, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” was recorded in Los Angeles.
The soundtrack EP will also feature “Home Again” (performed by the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s daughter Ashley Campbell) and his breakthrough hit “Gentle on My Mind” (performed byThe Band Perry). It will also include Campbell’s live versions of “Wichita Lineman” and “A Better Place” recorded at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium during his farewell tour.
After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011, Campbell issued two albums and embarked on a world tour. He was moved to a long-term care facility in Nashville in April.
“I’m Not Gonna Miss You” is described as “the poignant yet clear-eyed revelation of the things Alzheimer’s steals.”
Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me will open in theaters in New York City on Oct. 24, followed by a national release to 50 cities. The documentary was directed and produced by James Keach (producer of Walk the Line) and produced by Trevor Albert (Groundhog Day). Among those paying tribute to Campbell in the film are Bruce Springsteen, Bill Clinton, the Edge (from U2), Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Vince Gill,Jimmy Webb, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Steve Martin.
A complete soundtrack featuring additional tracks from the film will be released later this fall by Big Machine Records.
Campbell, 78, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. His hits include “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Try a Little Kindness,” “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Southern Nights.”
