“Countdown to the CMAs:  Country’s Greatest Crossover Hits” at 10:00 p.m. on ABC.  The actual awards are Wednesday. Speaking of the CMAs…

Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton to Duet on CMA Awards: The Ram Report

“It’ll be something I’ve never done before,” the country singer hints at their undoubtedly colossal collaboration

Actually, the country and pop/R&B sensations started plotting their CMA duet before Stapleton was even nominated. Once the “Traveller” singer heard he was predicted to be honored in a category or two, the creative wheels started turning on a possible performance slot.

“[Timberlake] is obviously one of the greatest musical talents in the world, maybe ever, that we have,” Stapleton says.. “I called him up with no thought of him agreeing to it, and he was ready to start planning it right then. I said, ‘Well, I think maybe we should wait, and if we get nominated they’ll let me have [a slot].’ He was so gracious and kind to want to do it and was so excited about it, and I’m excited about it. It’ll be something I’ve never done before for sure.”

The guys’ song choice is still under wraps, but with as much as Timberlake has been hinting about cutting a country record, it will likely be something with country flavor.

Stapleton and Timberlake join a list of crossover duets on Wednesday’s broadcast that also include John Mellencamp with Keith Urban and Fall Out Boy with Thomas Rhett. Of course, stars from the rock and pop worlds are nothing new for the CMAs, but country traditionalist Stapleton is ready for the inevitable backlash — armed with a good sense of humor.

Carrie Underwood Is Thrown-Off When Brad Paisley Ad-Libs at the CMAs

CARRIE UNDERWOOD has been co-hosting the CMAs with BRAD PAISLEY for so long that it seems like nothing fazes her.  But there’s one thing he does that really throws her off.

She says, quote, “Sometimes Brad goes off script . . . and then the script has me saying something that doesn’t make sense with what he said.  So that’s a fear.  I’m like, ‘Read the teleprompter.'”

Another thing that bothers her is when the writers or producers come up with jokes or bits she doesn’t like, or feel comfortable talking about.

Quote, “There have been a couple of things where I might not have been comfortable being a part of it.  Where I was like, ‘If you guys wanna do that, put it on a different segment when I’m like changing my clothes.’

“They can’t make me say anything I don’t want to say or be a part of something I don’t want to be a part of.”

Luke Bryan Has Been Turning Down Stuff That’s Not Related to Country Music

LUKE BRYAN is a country star who’s clearly at the top of his game.  And he wants to stay there, which is why he’s been turning down offers to do other stuff.  He says, quote, “I’m still trying to be the best I can be at being a country singer.

“It’s really all I ever wanted to be, so I don’t want to cloud my mind.  You have really to be careful, and you have to focus on the music.  When you see people that get off track, music becomes the afterthought.”

Miranda Lambert Wants to Do Another All-Female Version of her Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour

MIRANDA LAMBERT is looking to do another all-female version of her “Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars” tour.   Quote, “I want to do it again.  One thing about Pink Guitars is we’ve done it before.  It’s not always been all females.

“We’ve done it with different male artists . . . just rotating friends of mine that were male artists that came out.  But this time it felt like I needed to do a strong female thing because we need more women in country music.”
