How do you celebrate Singles Awareness Day? With leftover Halloween candy, boxed wine and The Notebook? Oh, wait, that was my Tuesday.
I’ve never been big on Valentine’s Day… maybe it’s that whole not having a date since 2012 thing… but regardless, I’m loving the single life these days, and I’m celebrating my freedom this weekend by doing whatever the hell I want. All I need is the perfect playlist.
Here are my top 20 Singles Awareness Day songs that will have you drinking up, moving on and finding someone new. Or still drinking boxed wine and eating 4 month old chocolate… But go ahead and mute The Notebook so you can listen to this playlist!
Better in a Black Dress – Katie Armiger
The all-my-friends-are-married girl’s anthem. Most of my friends are engaged, married, or divorced and engaged again (seriously), while I am still enjoying late nights in my little black dress. Katie Armiger says it perfectly with this line: Don’t have the blues when I’ve got my red wine. Amen sister.
Love You – Jack Ingram
What better way to vent about your crappy relationship than with a four-letter word? Jack gets his point across while keeping it G-rated.
Before He Cheats – Carrie Underwood
The ultimate revenge song for anyone who has been cheated on. Plus have you SEEN the music video? The ever-angelic and beautiful Carrie Underwood is H-O-T when she’s pissed.
Best Days of Your Life – Kellie Pickler
Another hot blonde singing about a cheater. But Kellie doesn’t take to physical punishment. Just reminding him that he’s already had the best days of his life is enough to help her move on.
DONE – The Bandy Perry
We have all been in that on again, off again, back and forth relationship. There finally comes a time when you are just DONE.
A Girl’s Gotta Do (What a Girl’s Gotta Do) – Mindy McCready
Taking it back to this mid-90s classic, Mindy tells you exactly what a girl’s gotta do to get over her ex. Cry it out if necessary, but then get that red dress on and find someone new!
Love – Roger Creager
Don’t let the title of the song fool you. Love ain’t what this song’s about. One of my favorite Texas country drinkin’ songs that is 100% anti-love.
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Taylor Swift
Ok, some of you may not think this song belongs on a “country music” playlist, but I have to give some love to my girl T-Swift! Plus, this is the ultimate {insert middle finger emoji} to your ex!
Kristen Kelly – Ex-Old Man
Kristen gets right to the point in the first line: Got an ex-old man and ex-best girlfriend. And all I can think is if she can get through that, I can get through anything. Don’t worry girl, I’m not judging you for that drink in your hand. In fact, can I get you another?
I’m That Kind of Girl – Patty Loveless
I’ve known every word to this song since I was 4 years-old (real appropriate Mom and Dad) and as I’ve grown older, I truly believe I’m that kind of girl. The strong-willed, hopeless romantic who is ready for love, but won’t settle for shit.
Goodbye Earl – Dixie Chicks
Although I don’t advocate for murder, I’m a firm believer in having that friend who WOULD help bury the body if need be. You can’t help but sing along and not feel one bit sorry for Earl.
Here’s a Quarter – Travis Tritt
The 1991 version of “I deleted your number and blocked you on all social media accounts. Bye Felecia!”
How Do You Like Me Now?! – Toby Keith
I can relate to Toby on this one. When I make it to ESPN, I hope all my exes choke on a potato chip when I show up on their living room TV screen.
You’ll Think of Me – Keith Urban
Keith doesn’t seem quite over it yet, but at least he tells the b*tch to leave his sweater. And of course she’ll think of him, he’s Keith Urban. And yeah, he’ll be fine… he doesn’t look a day past 30.
One Way Ticket – LeAnn Rimes
A promising, uplifting song that will make you believe in a new beginning. How about a westbound plane to Vegas??
Hell on Heels – Pistol Annies
Move over Kanye. The Pistol Annies country version of “Gold Digger” has you wanting to make the devil a deal. Sugar Daddy I’m comin’ for you.
Brand New Girlfriend – Steve Holy
Steve Holy just did what any gentleman would do when she said she needed a little space… he got a brand new girlfriend!
Love Don’t Live Here Anymore – Lady Antebellum
Another been there, done that anthem. If charming Charles Kelley can move on, so can I… hopefully in the same direction, where we run into each other, and start dating…
Leave the Pieces – The Wreckers
It’s the worst when you know something is off, something isn’t right, it’s coming… the dump. Leave it to The Wreckers to tell it like it is… maybe being gorgeous and talented helps you believe “Yeah, I’ll be fine.”
Home Alone Tonight – Luke Bryan ft. Karen Fairchild
Misery loves company? Misery’s name is Karen Fairchild who loves Luke Bryan going shot for shot with her while they send picture texts to their exes from the bar. Task tomorrow: Photoshop picture of me with Luke Bryan to send to my ex while at the bar on Valentines’s Day.
I hope this playlist empowers you to embrace the solo life or at least to put down the solo cup and upgrade to glass… or a nice sturdy plastic.
