Have you noticed that artists always want to talk about their new music? It’s understandable. It’s what they’re selling at that moment and they have a lot invested in it. But if you CAN get them talking about the old stuff, it’s worth it.
CMT was able to do that with DIERKS BENTLEY. They reminded him that this month is the 15-year anniversary of his first hit, “What Was I Thinkin'”. and t took him to a good place.
He said, quote, “That song was so good. [The] dobro, the acoustic guitar, and just the instrumentation on that whole record was so strong. I still go back to that song as a template in some ways.
“If I had to pick one song that sums up who I am, it would probably still be that first one. It has an acoustic sensibility, great songwriting, plus the energy of my live show. It incorporates a lot of the positive elements of my career.”
