Why Are 14 Writers Credited on Thomas Rhett’s Song “Vacation”?
There’s a very good reason 14 different people are given songwriter credit on THOMAS RHETT’strack “Vacation” . . . and that reason is fear. Seven people actually wrote it, but after it was finished everyone noticed something.
It sounded very similar to the WAR classic, “Low Rider”. So, Thomas called the seven guys who wrote THAT song and told them he didn’t intend to steal their sound . . . and then offered them songwriter credit. They accepted.
He recently talked about it, saying, quote, “When you look at somebody like PHARRELL and ROBIN THICKEgetting sued because of a drum pattern, it makes you scared to death to put something that remotely sounds like something.”
(Here’s “Low Rider“, and here’s “Vacation“. Good move heading that off at the pass, but how did NONE of his co-writers notice until after it was done?)
Speaking of Thomas Rhett: He answered a series of questions on an edition of Vevo UK’s “60-Seconds With.”
