Eric Church’s Next Tour Includes an Elaborate Plan to Stop Ticket Scalpers
ERIC CHURCH announced the details of his “Holdin’ My Own” tour, which doesn’t kickoff until January. But it’s news for two reasons. One being that there’s no opening act. He’s doing two different sets with an intermission in the middle.
But he also has detailed plans to stop scummy ticket scalpers from grabbing all the choice seats, and reselling them for ridiculous amounts. If this works, you have to think he’ll share it with other artists . . . because Eric really, really HATES scalpers.
According to his website, the main objective is to remove scalpers from the pre-sale process. One way to do that is by requiring people to join his fan club. They’ll get first dibs, plus a text message with “customized details” on what to do next.
They don’t get a physical ticket until closer to the show. The devil is clearly in the details, and I’m sure they walk you through it. I’m going to trust that his team put a lot of thought into this, and I hope it works. Or at the very least gives him peace of mind.
A statement on his website says it all, quote, “We want to do everything within our power to put the advantage in the hands of true fans rather than those that take advantage of the system.”
