Willie Nelson is Narrating a Documentary About His 90-Year-Old Roadie
WILLIE NELSON has a 90-year-old roadie named Ben Dorcy . . . and the guy’s had an incredible life.
He’s toured with Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Kinky Friedman, Jack Ingram, and Jamey Johnson, and he was once a gardener and chauffeur to John Wayne. He was also the first inductee into the Roadie Hall of Fame in 2009.
The two met in the ’60s while on the road with RAY PRICE. Willie was the bass player and Ben was, of course, a roadie.
Willie brought him along when he went solo . . . and Ben was lucky enough to be on the bus during one of the marijuana arrests. Willie told “Rolling Stone”, quote, “He was over there asleep and I think I told them he was dead.”
Willie’s narrating a documentary about him called “King of the Roadies”. Willie’s youngest daughter and his grandnephew are directing it, and there’s a Kickstarter.com campaign hoping to get it finished.
Scotty McCreery’s Friends Still Slap Him Around Like When They Were Kids
SCOTTY MCCREERY is famous enough that he could be a jerk, but he’s not. So “Sports Illustrated” asked how he’s able to stay grounded and not let it all go to his head.
He said, quote, “I keep a lot of family and friends close. I live with four friends I’ve had since I was two or three years old. They don’t really care about the whole music thing or anything. They slap me around like they used to. As long as you don’t have ‘yes men’ around it’s easy to stay grounded in the world.”
In a different interview, Scotty confirmed that he’s been working on new music.
He said, quote, “We’ve been in the studio the last two days getting it started, so we’ve cut five songs now for the new record. And we hope to have a new single out in about a month or two.”
“Country Weekly” has a behind-the-scenes video of KACEY MUSGRAVES talking about her “Pageant Material” album, which is out June 23rd. It includes a flashback to the moment her cowriter BRANDY CLARK said the phrase that inspired the song “Biscuits”.
As is customary for The Voice finales, Meghan Linsey premiered a brand-new song during Monday night’s (May 18) penultimate episode — but unlike many finalists, Linsey co-wrote her new tune herself.
The song is called “Change My Mind,” and you can hear it and see Linsey’s new music video for the song above. During Monday night’s show, Linsey performed the song dressed in a slinky blue dress, on a icy-looking stage, smoky dry ice billowing around the stage floor (see video of her performance below).
“I gotta hand it to you, you guys wrote the hell out of that song,” Linsey’s coach Blake Shelton told her after her performance. “That hook is so strong, so powerful.”
Coach Adam Levine told Linsey that he was “proud” of her for debuting her own original material and added that he was “proud of the show for promoting it.”
Linsey told Shelton that the song is a few years old and was inspired by and written during a bad relationship. As country fans know, Linsey and her then-boyfriend, Joshua Scott Jones, made up the duo Steel Magnolia, who rose to fame on the TV competition show Can You Duet? They released an album in early 2011, and Jones entered drug rehab that fall. The couple broke up, both personally and professionally, shortly thereafter.
“Change My Mind” is now available for download on iTunes.
