Dustin Lynch is Looking Forward to a Little Turkey Hunting with Luke Bryan
HIGHLIGHTS: DUSTIN LYNCH and LUKE BRYAN will have some time to get acquainted before they go on tour in May. Dustin says, quote, “We’re gonna do a little turkey hunting in the spring and get to know each other on that level.” It won’t be Dustin’s first time. Quote, “Calling turkeys, that’s the only thing I really brag about. I’m really good.”
DUSTIN LYNCH is definitely excited about being on LUKE BRYAN’S Kick Up the Dust tour, which starts in May. But I think he’s even MORE pumped about the getting-acquainted time they’re planning before it starts.
He tells CMT, quote, “We’re gonna do a little turkey hunting in the spring and get to know each other on that level. Sometime after he gets back from [Europe] in March.”
And if you’re wondering who’ll be more successful at the hunt, I’d go with Dustin because he has serious skills and he’s not afraid to tell you about it. Quote, “Calling turkeys . . . that’s the only thing I really brag about. I’m really good.”
One more thing about Luke: If you’re planning to check out his tour this year, and are looking forward to seeing him perform “I See You”, well, so is he.
He says, quote, “‘I See You’ for me, I wanted to play it live, I just love the intensity of how edgy the song is. I’ve never really went that far with almost kind of a rock feel, and I just felt it was a hit and now I’m excited to see how it does on the road.”
Luke Bryan Takes His Nephew in After Deaths in the Family
Luke Bryan is now a father-figure to three boys. In the wake of the death of his brother-in-law last November, the ‘I See You’ singer has taken in his 13-year-old nephew, Til.
Til is the youngest of three kids born to Ben Lee Cheshire and Bryan’s late sister, Kelly.

Brad Paisley Explains the Importance of Matching the Guitar to the Song
HIGHLIGHTS: BRAD PAISLEY explains how important it is to match the right guitar to the right song. He says, quote, “Every song has its own characteristic and every guitar has its own characteristics . . . so the right guitar on the right song is all a part of the production process.”
This may explain what keeps Guitar Center in business. When BRAD PAISLEYrecords a song, he doesn’t just grab a guitar and start playing. He grabs THE guitar that sounds right for THAT song.
To do that, you need to have a collection of guitars to choose from. He says, quote, “Every song has its own characteristic and every guitar has its own characteristics, so you have a really good palate if you have a lot of guitars.
“You have a chance to paint the right picture the more colors that you have to paint with . . . and guitars are no different.
“There are some guitars that sound vintage, some sound more modern, some that distort really well, some that are jazzy . . . so the right guitar on the right song is all a part of the production process.”
And it’s NOT just the big stars who own tons of guitars. He adds, quote, “Any studio player that you hire will come to your session with an entire arsenal of instruments that can help make the record sound unique.”
DARIUS RUCKER is on this Saturday’s “CMT Inside Fame” . . . and he’ll be talking about why he went country after being in HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH. He says, quote, “There were times I would think, ‘there’s something else out there for me’, and [the song] ‘Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It’ was the beginning of what I was supposed to do that was amazingly special.” (CMT)
DWIGHT YOAKAM has a lot on his plate these days. He’s doing a duet with BRANDY CLARK on Sunday’s Grammys. He’s also releasing a new album, “Second Hand Heart”, on April 14th. You can listen to the title track at RollingStone.com.
MIRANDA LAMBERT’S MuttNation Foundation has been raising some serious cash, and putting it in the right places. They distributed over $200,000 to animal shelters in each of the 50 states in January. (People)
MARTINA MCBRIDE has added seven shows to her “Everlasting Tour.” The first new date is next Tuesday in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Details are at MartinaMcBride.com.
Brantley Gilbert Wins Album + Artist of the Year in the 2015 Taste of Country Awards
The BG Nation has done it again! Brantley Gilbert came out on top in both the Album and Artist of the Year categories in the 2015 Taste of Country Awards.
Gilbert’s devoted fans turned out in droves to vote for his third studio album, ‘Just as I Am,’ but it was a tough race. In the end, Gilbert won out over Hunter Hayes‘ ‘Storyline’ by a narrow margin of less than two percent of the overall vote, far outdistancing albums from other top names like Eric Church, Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert for the win.
Artist of the Year voting was a different story, with Gilbert taking more than 38 percent of the overall vote — more than 14 percentage points ahead of Luke Bryan in second place. Blake Shelton, Garth Brooks and Lambert rounded out the Top 5 in that category, while Church and Aldean came up short in the votes this time around, bringing up the rear in our most important category this year.
