While we’re on the subject: CMT.com posted videos of country stars giving their first-ever awards show acceptance speeches . . . and each had just won the CMT Breakthrough Video of the Year.
They include Dierks Bentley, Kellie Pickler, Cassadee Pope, Sam Hunt, and Carrie Underwood, but there’s no video of her for some reason. We also get our first look at TAYLOR SWIFT’s now-famous “I can’t believe I won” face. It was 2007 and she actually gives a shout-out to MySpace.
CRAIG MORGAN’s new video was recorded in a Nashville studio that was once a gothic revival church. It’s pretty cool when you see it. Anyway, the song is called “I’ll Be Home Soon“ . . . and it’s from his new album “A Whole Lot More to Me”, which is out June 3rd.
THOMPSON SQUARE released the video to their new song, “You Make It Look So Good“. It’s a combination of music AND home video because it’s filled with clips of their four-month-old son, Rigney Cooper.
Nashville has been canceled, but that doesn’t mean the show’s devoted fans are ready to accept the hews. More than 25,000 people have signed a petition online to try to earn the beloved drama a fifth season with a new network.
Nashville ran for four seasons on ABC, and there had been early signs that the show would get renewed for a fifth season. Lionsgate TV had recently hired two Emmy-winning producers to help re-tool the show, and it’s also been reported that they were already working on storylines for next year when ABC pulled the plug on May 12. The decision to cancel the show came so suddenly that even the actors didn’t know about it until right around the same time the news broke online, leading to much speculation as to why Nashville was canceled.
A petition at Change.org is not specifically aimed at changing ABC’s mind; instead, the petition, titled “Renew Nashville for Season 5,” will be sent to different networks that seem like possible contenders to pick up the show, including CMT, Hulu, Netflix, TNT, AMC, Amazon, NBC and CBS. ABC will also receive the petition, which launched the day the cancellation was announced and has already garnered 26, 706 supporters.
Deadline reports that former ABC President Paul Lee was a big Nashville supporter, and his departure from the network may have factored into its cancellation. Incoming ABC President Channing Dungey explained the network’s decision on Tuesday (May 17), saying, “Internally on the network side, it was kind of the best fit for things on the schedule — obviously looking at ratings, looking at our own finances and looking at some of the new development,” according to Us Weekly.
