Willie Nelson Had a Stem-Cell Operation to Improve His Lung Health
Now we know why WILLIE NELSON canceled those three shows on the Django and Jimmie tour with MERLE HAGGARD last month. He underwent an operation to improve his lung function, and was still in recovery mode.
He revealed it last week in an interview with the “Washington Post”. Quote, “It was a stem-cell operation. It’s supposed to help the lungs.
“Over the years I’ve smoked a lot of cigarettes, and I’ve had emphysema and pneumonia four or five times, so my lungs were really screwed up, and I heard this stem-cell operation would be good for them. So I said, ‘Well, I’m gonna try it out.'”
Willie’s 82, and it’s not clear exactly how successful the operation was, but he did return to the road on October 18th, which was a few days after the canceled shows.
He also performed on Wednesday in Washington D.C. after accepting his 2015 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Other performers included Paul Simon, Neil Young, Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss, and Cyndi Lauper. Don Johnson hosted, and it airs January 15th on PBS.

RANDY HOUSER is making sure his son gets a solid musical education . . . from him. Quote, “He’s introduced to so many different kinds of music. One of the things I grew up with was my dad playing all kinds [and] I understand the importance of being fairly diverse when it comes to listening for my kid.”
SCOTTY MCCREERY’s book “Go Big or Go Home” will be in stores May 3rd. And even though he’s only 22 years old, he assures us it’ll be worth buying. Quote, “It’s a lot of life lessons and experiences. I had to grow up really quick in an adult world at 16 and 17 years old. So, it’s my perspective on things.”
LUKE BRYAN couldn’t decide who he wanted to be his duet partner on the song “Home Alone Tonight” . . . and then he saw KAREN FAIRCHILD and the light bulb went off.
