Glen Campbell’s Alzheimer’s Has Advanced to Where He Can Barely Communicate
GLEN CAMPBELL has moved back home. His wife Kim talked about it during a radio interview yesterday. She said his condition has progressed to stage six out of the seven stages of Alzheimer’s.
He also has aphasia, which means he’s lost the ability to communicate verbally. He doesn’t understand what people are saying to him, but he can still say a few short phrases like, “I love you” and “Where you been?”
There are also moments of extreme hostility. She says, quote, “He can be combative, [which] is typical.” She adds, quote, “He punched me in the eye, gave me a black eye. I had a black eye for two weeks. It’s really hard to cope with.”
It’s not clear why he moved back home, but it sounds like that’s simply the best place for him to be right now.
She says, quote, “I’ve been married to him for 33 years, so I just intuitively know what he needs, what he’s trying to communicate to me. We just try to find joy in each day with smiles and hugs and kisses.”
Listen to Glen’s touching final recording.

LUKE BRYAN’s annual Farm Tour is unique in that it’s not about filling up stadiums and padding his pockets. Proceeds benefit farming communities, and he likes to perform on real fields. The way he chooses the locations is also interesting.
He says, quote, “It’s kind old buddies of mine from way back. I’ll send them out with all these ideas for Farm Tour. We sit down, and we look at a map and I’m like, ‘What about Starkville? Somebody drive to Starkville and find us a field.'”
And if driving around looking at fields sounds like a fun job, that’s because it probably is. And Luke’s okay with that.
Quote, “They call it a Farm Tour location scouting trip, but I think it’s more of a ‘five-minutes . . . look at a field, and then another.’ [It’s] a fun trip for them, and then somehow I get the bill for it.” This year’s Farm Tour kicks off September 30th.
Speaking of Luke: People.com has a moving story of how he reached out to a five-year-old cancer patient. He called her, and also sent a video message. They were going to meet at his concert, but she took a turn for the worse and couldn’t make it.
Country Music Quick Extras
KENNY CHESNEY already knows who’ll be opening his stadium shows in 2016. He’ll be bringing Miranda Lambert, Sam Hunt, and Old Dominion. None of the cities or dates are confirmed yet. More info is at MirandaLambert.com.
MIRANDA LAMBERT says people don’t want to think about their problems when they go to concerts, so her job is to make sure they can cut loose and have fun.
