Miranda Lambert Performs ‘Complicated’ With Carolyn Dawn Johnson [WATCH]
Miranda Lambert is country star that many look up to, but during a show on Sunday (June 28) at Dauphin’s Countryfest in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada, the singer shared the stage with one of her biggest influences: Carolyn Dawn Johnson.
Lambert introduced Johnson — who happens to be Canadian, and has also been acting as as one of Lambert’s backup singers on tour — by saying, “She’s one of my biggest heroes and influences. So I thought we’d sing a couple [songs] together. From Alberta, Miss Carolyn Dawn Johnson!”
As Johnson took the stage, she said, “I’m super-honored to be singing with you,” before asking the crowd, “Isn’t Miranda amazing?” The ecstatic crowd erupted in applause — and not just for the “Platinum” singer.
Lambert then introduced “Complicated,” the first song of several that she and Johnson they sang together, by noting, “This is one of my most favorite songs that [Johnson] does, so I asked if we could do it for y’all tonight.”
Johnson strummed her acoustic guitar as the two women sang the confessional lyrics: “It’s such a contradiction / Do I lie or tell the truth? / Is it fact or fiction? / Oh, the way I feel for you.”
“Complicated” was a Top 10 hit for Johnson on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2001.
Lambert recently announced her all-female Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour, which will begin in the fall, and is proud to help other up-and-coming women in country.
“I really support female artists in any genre, especially country music right now,” she explains. “I’ve taken girls on tour for a long time, and I want to continue to do that because I feel like I can give them a platform.”

Martina McBride’s Fourth of July Performance in Nashville to Be Streamed Online
Nashville will celebrate Independence Day with the nation’s largest fireworks show and one of country music’s most-loved artists, Martina McBride – and the event will be available to watch even if you’re not in Music City.
McBride is headlining Nashville’s “Let Freedom Ring” Fourth of July event this year, which will be the city’s largest July 4th celebration to date; an estimated 280,000-plus people will attend. The two-day event includes performances by Mikky Ekko, country duo Striking Matches and pop-rock artist Gabe Dixon, with all of the action taking place on four blocks of Lower Broadway.
On Saturday (July 4), McBride will enter the spotlight at 8:10PM CT, with fireworks sparking off at 9:30PM CT. The fireworks show will be synchronized to a performance by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. The festivities will be available for live streaming online, as well as via the AT&T U-verse app, beginning at 6:30PM CT.
McBride is currently on the road on her Everlasting Tour, which kicked off in August of 2014 and was extended, due to fan interest, through this summer. The singer has been vocal about how much fun she’s having on the road.
“We are enjoying the fresh take on our hits of the last 20-plus years, as well as being able to play so much of the new album because it’s familiar music to my fans,” McBride says. “I think we are all wishing this tour really would last forever!”

Brandy Clark Offers Solution to Lack of Females in Country Music
Brandy Clark may have just single-handedly solved the problems that female country artists are experiencing in the commercial marketplace.
Clark spoke to the Village Voice over the weekend in support of her appearance at the FarmBorough festival, and she weighed in on the controversy that’s been going on since a male radio programmer said the way to score ratings in country radio is to remove females from playlists. Keith Hill said female artists are “just not the lettuce in our salad. The lettuce is Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and artists like that. The tomatoes of our salad are the females.”
That’s led to an enormous online campaign, with a number of female artists weighing in, while fans have been buying tomato T-shirts in support. But Clark — whose debut album, 12 Stories, was one of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2014 — says there’s a much better way for fans to support women in country music.
“I see a lot of people wearing the tomato shirts, which is great,” she observes, “but I think, ‘Man, I wish they would buy a female’s CD, a female record.’”
Clark is also a top songwriter in Nashville, having written hits for the Band Perry and Miranda Lambert, as well as working extensively with Kacey Musgraves. She hopes things will level out for female artists.
“Maybe I’m naïve,” she concedes. “Maybe I’m just hopeful because I’m a female in country, and I know for me that everything would be better if females were playing — not just if I were playing, but females — because as a songwriter, it’s been a struggle for me because there just aren’t a lot of places to go with songs. Most females write a lot more female songs than they write male songs.”

Forbes Names Garth Brooks Highest Paid Country Artist in Celebrity 100
Financial magazine Forbes has released its annual Celebrity 100, a list of the top-earning celebrities over the past year, and 10 of our own country artists made the cut. Garth Brooks comes in at No. 6 on the list, making him the top-paid country artist in the biz.
The list is made up of any and all celebrities on the planet — actors, athletes, radio personalities, musicians, you name it — so to earn a spot on the list is no small feat.
Earning $90 million over the last year, Brooks grabbed the No. 6 slot primarily due to his much anticipated return to the stage after a hiatus from performing. According to Forbes, the legend has been raking in more than $1 million at every stop, playing back-to-back shows in the same arena on the same night.
