Dierks Bentley is “People’s” Hottest Guy, and He’s a Member of the Mile-High Club

Vince Gill Calls It a “Tragedy” That Female Artists Aren’t Getting as Much Airplay as Males
VINCE GILL thinks country radio isn’t giving female artists a fair shake. He stops short of blaming the “bro country” movement, but if you read between the lines, that’s where he’s coming from.
He says, quote, “It’s one of the greatest tragedies in this stretch of life for me. To me, [women] are making much more interesting records. They’re saying more things I’d prefer to hear, lyrically and song-wise, and that’s compelling.
“This ASHLEY MONROE kid writes songs like she’s 80 years old. It’s remarkable, and it’s not dumbing it down. It’s not going for the lowest common denominator. It’s so refreshing, you know?”
I respect Vince, but he has some skin in the game on this. He helped produce Ashley’s album “Like A Rose”, and her new album “The Blade”, which will be out July 24th. Even if his feelings are sincere it’s hard to ignore where his interests lie.
DARIUS RUCKER brought out his openers, Brett Eldredge, the Brothers Osborne, and A Thousand Horses, and had them join him on the Hootie & The Blowfish classic “Hold My Hand”.
Jason Aldean doesn’t feel being called “bro country” is a compliment
One of the most recent poster boys for bro country has spoken to PennLive and given his two cents on being labeled that way. Jason Aldean made it clear he doesn’t like being called that term. Nope. Not even a lil bit
“It bothers me because I don’t feel like it’s a compliment. To me, it’s sort of a backhanded thing that comes from a very narrow-minded listener and I don’t know who came up with that ridiculous term.
“If you would take a minute and look at my catalog of songs over the years, there are songs that, I guess, fit whatever the hell that description of “bro country” is, but at the same time we’ve got songs like ‘Fly over States’ and ‘The Truth’ and ‘Amarillo Sky.’ We’ve got songs that definitely have some meat on them and tell a great story. It’s not all about trucks and girls and beer and whatever else they think it is.”
And, here’s the thing Jason is right. While some of his songs certainly helped spawn the craze that is girls in cut offs having beer in a raised pick up, he has plenty of songs that have depth and meaning.
