Sunday’s ACMs Will Be the First Awards Show Broadcast From a Football Stadium
“Billboard” has a story about Sunday’s “50th Annual ACM Awards” . . . and it helps explain why everyone’s so damn excited. For one, it’ll be the first awards show to be broadcast from a football stadium.
It’s being held at the massive AT&T Stadium, which is where the Dallas Cowboys play. To give you an idea of how big it is . . . it takes 30 minutes for a tech person to get to the top just to start work.
Stadiums aren’t designed for theatrical-type shows so they had to create their own special rigging for stuff like lights, curtains, sound, and video. They even constructed two full-size stages.
It’s also going to cost a “staggering” amount of money. One of the producers estimates it’ll be four times higher than when they do the show in Vegas.
But here’s the ultimate reason to be impressed. CBS actually gave them 30 extra minutes of precious airtime, which means the show could run well over 3 1/2 hours.
Will Garth Brooks Be Lip-Synching at the ACMs?
Most artists try to hide it when they lip-sync, but GARTH BROOKS is already admitting there’s a good chance he’ll be doing it at Sunday’s ACMs.
He’s wrapping up a five-concert series tomorrow in Portland, Oregon, and he’s pretty sure his voice will be shot by then. So he already has a contingency plan for Sunday.
He says, quote, “Just in case we have to lip-sync, we taped a performance that was solely made for the awards show. So we don’t know if we’re lip-synching or not, but my bet is, if I know Portland, we’re not going to get out of here with anything.
“And then you’ve got to fly down and do that show immediately. So we’ll see how that’s going to go.”
Dierks Bentley Still Remembers Winning His First ACM Award
DIERKS BENTLEY has a special place in his heart for the ACMs, because that’s the first award he ever won. He says, quote, “My very first award was ACM for New Artist of the Year. It was special.
“Hearing my name being called was a really big deal. [I remember] walking up and getting a chance to thank everybody. I still have the trophy, it means a lot to me.”
Jason Aldean Would Love to Win ACM Album of the Year
JASON ALDEAN wouldn’t mind winning Best Male Vocalist or Entertainer of the Year at the ACMs . . . but his top goal is to see “Old Boots, New Dirt” take home the Album of the Year trophy.
He explains, quote, “There’s a lot that goes into launching an album, and whatever that album does sort of sets you up for the next year-and-a-half or whatever. So, it’s big to win that.”
