Frankie Ballard Explains Why He’s a Valentine’s Day Grinch
You can add FRANKIE BALLARD to the list of people who hate Valentine’s Day. In his case, it’s because he got dumped by his high school girlfriend right after he emptied his wallet buying her flowers.
He explains, quote, “I really don’t like Valentine’s Day. A had a bad experience in high school. I bought a dozen roses with 60 bucks for my girlfriend at the time and gave ’em to her on Valentine’s Day . . . and she broke up with me two days later.
“I wasn’t that mad about the breakup, as much as I was the 60 bucks I spent, ’cause that was everything to me back in those days. It really put a bad taste in my mouth. I’m like the Valentine’s Day Grinch. I’m not a Hallmark man.”
Naomi Judd Smoked a “Big Doobie” Right Before The Judd’s First Record Company Audition
Here’s a story you can tell your parents the next time they say today’s country music isn’t as wholesome as it used to be. NAOMI JUDD smoked a fat one right before she and WYNONNA had their first record company audition.
She explains, quote, “In 1983, Wynonna had just finished high school. I was doing prostate exams [as] a registered nurse. We were wearing $30 flea market dresses, way too much hair, way too much makeup. Just absolutely terrified.
“Before we went in, I went into the bathroom and smoked a big doobie. We sang some songs we had learned on the mountaintop. We had literally just come from Kentucky.”
I’m not saying the “medication” helped, but they did nail the audition. She adds, quote, “The next thing you know, the [head of RCA Nashville] took us shopping to buy us outfits, because we didn’t have anything. We got our shoes at Payless.”
